Update on Employment Laws and Regulations & Enhancing Intra-Agency Compliance Strategies

Attorneys from Wright, Lindsey, Jennings will present an update on employment laws and regulations, including overtime, medical marijuana, ADA accessibility, and other pertinent topics. There will be a focus on ways for administrative staff, human resource directors, and program supervisors to enhance agency accountability, including interviewing and hiring practices, implementing employee discipline and termination policies, and improving compliance strategies between administrative departments and program managers.

Leadership Development for Agency Executives, Human Resource Managers, Administrative Staff, and Program Supervisors

Participants will learn leadership styles, characteristics of good leaders, the importance of networking, how to appreciate and reward employees, and how to be a true servant leader and more. The course will emphasize small group exercises and sharing of participants’ ideas about leadership.

Thursday, November 16 – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Lunch provided)

How to Plan and Conduct Successful Meetings (Morning)

Participants will learn how to plan and conduct better meetings, both large and small; how to be a neutral facilitator for meetings; how to preside at meetings; how to introduce speakers; how to deal with conflict at a meeting and much more. The course will emphasize discussion by participants on successful meeting ideas.

The presenter for the Wednesday session and Thursday morning session will be Dr. Joe Waldrum, who recently retired as a Professor of Leadership Development after 39 years with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Dr. Waldrum directed the two-year leadership development program, Lead Arkansas (LeadAR), for the last 22 years of his career.

Round-Table Discussions and Affiliate Meetings (Afternoon)

Alternating round-table discussions – based on job duties and affiliate group membership – will prompt deeper understanding of the concepts and tools learned during the symposium, development of next steps for implementation, and the need for future training sessions, including an opportunity to make suggestions for workshop topics at the 2018 ACAAA annual conference.
